Preach Plan vs Sermons.app
Sermons.app and Preach Plan agree on the thing most AI sermon tools do not: neither one will write your sermon. Where they part is what they help with instead. Sermons.app is a sermon coach for the week: you talk an idea through by voice, write the draft in its editor with coaching beside you, and get a second read on the finished manuscript. Preach Plan is a preaching calendar for pastors and church teams: the year of Sundays, the series, who is preaching, and what a change lands on before you make it. If what you are short of is help with this Sunday's message, Sermons.app is the closer fit. If it is a year you cannot see past October, that is a different shortage.
Feature by feature
Checked October 3, 2026 against the Sermons.app pricing page and its features page, which are the authority on what it includes and costs, not this table. Sermons.app has three plans; the rows below say which plan a feature is on where that matters. Every price on these pages is re-checked each quarter.
| What you are trying to do | Preach Plan | Sermons.app |
|---|---|---|
| Use AI without it writing the sermon for you | Yes: it sorts ideas, asks questions back, and will not write a point, an illustration or the claim | Yes: "Real sermon preparation, never sermon automation" |
| Talk the message through out loud and have it reflected back | No | Yes: voice notes, with your big idea and recurring themes drawn out |
| Get coaching while you write the draft | No: a page to write on, with sections, but no coach beside it | Yes: highlight a line for a suggestion on clarity, brevity or voice |
| Get a second read on the finished manuscript | No | Yes: clarity, structure, application, engagement and faithfulness to the text |
| Have feedback tuned to how you preach | No | Yes: a voice profile learned from your blog, podcast feed or YouTube sermons |
| Turn a sermon into a small-group guide, devotional or social posts | No | Yes, on the Pastor Pro plan |
| Map a series as an arc of several weeks | Yes: length, arc and big idea, week by week | Yes, on the Pastor Pro plan |
| See a whole year of Sundays, or several years, at once | Yes: up to five years | No equivalent published |
| Move a series and see what it collides with first | Yes: before anything changes | No equivalent published |
| Put Easter, Mother's Day and your own church's days on the calendar | Yes: the days your church keeps, chosen one by one | No equivalent published |
| Share one calendar with a teaching team and staff | Yes: Admin, Write or Read-only, and read-only is free | A teaching calendar and team features are on the Church plan, marked "Coming soon" |
| Put the preaching dates in everyone's own calendar app | Yes: a feed per person, kept current | No equivalent published |
| Bring in years of preaching history from a spreadsheet | Yes: Excel, CSV or paste, several years at once | Imports sermons as Word documents and PDFs, not a planning sheet |
| Cost | $19.99 a month, or $199.99 a year, seven days free first | $19 a month or $190 a year (Pastor); $39 or $390 (Pastor Pro); 14 days free |
Which of the two are you actually short of?
Both tools are for a pastor who wants to do the work themselves. So the question is not whether you want help from AI. It is where in the week the help is missing.
If Thursday is the problem, the passage is chosen, you have notes and a sense of the text, and the sermon will not come together, then a coach who asks the right question at that moment is exactly what you need. Sermons.app is built for that hour.
If Thursday is the problem because nobody decided until Tuesday what Sunday was, the help you need is earlier than the sermon. The plan is what protects the study. A year planned in the fall, with the passages settled six to eight weeks out and the whole team able to see it, gives the week back to the text. Preach Plan is built for that, and does nothing for the sermon itself.

The Preach Plan calendar with the sample year loaded, one Sunday to a line: the date and the week of its series, the title, the passage, the big idea, who is preaching and the days of that week, with each series named once in a heading above its weeks and a red line marking today. Beside it, a panel opened on Needs a decision reports that Bishop is scheduled with nothing to preach and that a message titled Abba question-mark is still a question. Under that, a card about this Sunday, Prayer (Pray Boldly), week 2 of 6 of A House for His Presence, with no passage chosen yet and Adam preaching, then the days ahead.
Where each one draws the line on AI
Sermons.app describes its coach as one that asks the questions a wise mentor would ask, and says plainly that the conviction, the study and the words stay yours. Its suggestions on a draft are offered, not imposed. That is a careful line, and it is close to this one.
Preach Plan's line sits a little further from the sermon. AI for everything around the sermon. None of the sermon. Its assistant sorts ideas you already had, asks questions back, and helps with the work around the message, but it does not coach or edit the manuscript. Neither line is the right one for everybody. A pastor who wants a second voice on the draft itself will find Preach Plan has nothing to say about it.
Pick Sermons.app if
- The hard part of your week is the message itself, and you want a coach in the room while you work on it.
- You think out loud. Talking a sermon through by voice and having the big idea reflected back is the core of what it does.
- You want a second read before Sunday on clarity, structure and application.
- You want the sermon turned into other material for small groups, a newsletter or social posts afterward.
Pick Preach Plan if
- The year is the problem. Series get decided three weeks out because nobody can see further than that.
- Several people preach and you need one calendar the whole team works from, with the load visible.
- Other ministries plan from your preaching and keep working from an old copy.
- You already keep the plan in a spreadsheet and want it shared without retyping it.
Can you use both?
Yes, and they would not get in each other's way. Preach Plan decides which Sunday gets which passage and who preaches it; Sermons.app helps with the sermon once you are in the text. There is no connection between them and none is needed: the handoff is a date and a passage.
